Data Visualization

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY COMMISSION

Visual Translation of Academic Research for Book Publication Commissioned Project | 2024

Visual Strategy

Problem: Dense tables and paragraphs alienated general readers without sacrificing scholarly rigor.

Solution: Created hierarchical visual system balancing three priorities:

1. Accuracy — data integrity maintained through careful research review

2. Accessibility — visual hierarchy guides reader comprehension

3. Aesthetic cohesion — design elevated content without overwhelming it

Execution | Designed infographic concepts for editorial review - Created custom map with layered historical data points - Developed typography system separating primary data from interpretive notes - Iterated twice based on faculty feedback before final approval

Outcomes | Published Book - Client approved deliverables on first final submission - Established workflow for future commissioned research visualizations
